CPMA Participates in 20th Annual ACS GCI Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference

June 14, 2016

Members of the Color Pigments Manufacturers Association, Inc. (CPMA) provided industry expertise about the chemical properties and performance requirements of color pigments during the 20th Annual ACS Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference held in Portland, OR, June 14-16.

Mary Ellen Maxwell, past President of CPMA and Product Stewardship Manager, North America at Clariant Corporation, discussed the safety and efficacy of color pigments in commerce, contrasting industry sustainability practices with environmental conceptions. She particularly focused on color pigments applications in paints and coatings.

Robert Mott, Ph.D., Chair of CPMA’s Organic Pigments Committee and Global Regulatory Manager at Sun Chemical Corporation, was one of four participants in the Green Chemistry for a Rainbow of Colorants workshop and panel discussion organized by Northwest Green Chemistry. Dr. Mott shared insight on the chemistry of color pigments used in printing inks and the engineering of green chemistry solutions to achieve product stewardship goals.

Other workshop participants included Dr. Robert Christie, Heriot-Watt University; Dr. Romesh Kumar, Clariant Corporation; and Thomas Schaefer, Bluesign Technologies.

The ACS GCI Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference provides a unique platform for leaders, policy makers, educators, students and professionals from the scientific community to obtain valuable knowledge on progress in greener chemistry and engineering research. This year’s theme was “Advancing Sustainable Solutions by Design.”
