The Color Pigments Manufacturers Association (CPMA) held its Fall Meeting on September 25 at the 2024 CAD RETEC, the largest technical conference in North America devoted to the coloring of plastic, which took place September 23-25 in Tampa, FL.
CPMA's presence was strongly felt at this year’s conference, connecting with companies on the exhibit floor, convening industry leaders at the CPMA Fall Meeting, and sponsoring the vibrant Pigments & Pours networking event in support of T1D Warriors. In addition, CPMA Executive Director David Wawer was a featured presenter in the conference technical program and shared insights on the intersection of customer sustainability pressures with plastics laws and regulations.
The CPMA Fall meeting brought together Board and member companies for a networking breakfast, followed by expert presentations and a roundtable discussion on key topics impacting the color pigments sector.
CPMA Welcomes New Members
As part of its Fall Meeting, CPMA welcomed new member companies including:
Frank Bursch, President of North America Operations at Sudarshan Chemicals, and Chris Weber, Director of Sales and Technical Service at Sincol USA, joined the CPMA Board of Governors for 2024-2025.
Sustainability in Plastics
During the CPMA Fall Meeting, featured speaker Dr. Hanne Jones, Senior Consultant, AMI, shared expert insights on global sustainability trends in plastics. She discussed sustainability drivers, where global recycling is today, impact on end-user markets and demand for plastics. While the overall demand for plastics will continue to grow, the demand for recycled resin will continue to increase. Therefore, it is important for industry to work together to achieve better recyclability and integration of recycled content into packaging and other products.
As part of its sustainability initiative, CPMA is working with the value chain and leading the conversation on sustainable solutions for the color industry. Earlier in September, CPMA held its first Sustainability and Innovation Forum, hosted by member Penn Color, bringing together key stakeholders representing the full value chain from pigments suppliers to masterbatch manufacturers, to converters and brands. The forum focused on latest innovation trends, challenges and opportunities in working together to advance sustainable color solutions.
Transportation Industry Challenges
Randy Strutz, President of Quality Carriers, also a featured speaker at the CPMA Fall Meeting, discussed current challenges impacting the truck transportation business. Quality Carriers is the largest bulk chemical trucking carrier in North America. Randy shared his perspective on potential impacts of labor disruption from the port strikes and US and Canadian railroads, regulatory pressures and truck capacity. CPMA is keeping its members informed on critical transportation issues and challenges impacting the supply chain in North America.
CPMA Annual Meeting
CPMA announced that it will be holding its Annual Membership Meeting on December 5 in Cincinnati, OH, hosted by member Shepherd Color Company.
